Tour de France Part Two
There are many reasons that the race has become popular. Perhaps the easiest recognized contributing factor is the length. As previously mentioned, the race is 2,200 miles. This length is equivalent to more than 80 marathons. Participants are thus spending several weeks exerting high amounts of energy to compete in the race, and the endurance is impressive to many fans. Seeing the cyclists perform can sometimes feel surreal because their stamina comes off as so superhuman!
Another reason for the race's popularity is cultural. The race always ends in Paris, with the course changing every year. Watching the Tour de France on TV gives those from outside the region an opportunity to see the charm and beauty that is present in the area. It also gives the French a chance to be proud of the beauty in the region. Hopefully now you have a better understanding of the Tour de France. It is one of the greatest traditions in sports. Even if you aren't a cycling fan, it is a spectacle to behold.
